Women from Arab and Asian cultures, who usually have beautiful hair, have been oiling their hair for centuries. This is partly due to genes, partly to proper care. Oiling is simply rubbing various vegetable oils into the hair and scalp. This ensures the appropriate level of hydration, strengthens the hair and brings out its natural beauty. Oils – especially certain types, which I will discuss in a moment – make the hair soft, manageable and nourished. The massage we give to the scalp during oiling improves blood circulation. This, in turn, can affect the speed at which your hair grows. In addition, some types of oils prevent the formation of dandruff and effectively fight dandruff that has already appeared on the scalp.
Many shampoos contain silicones that quickly and effectively improve the appearance of your hair, but only temporarily. Oils provide immediate shine, penetrate the hair and nourish it from the inside. They repair damage both on the surface and inside the hair, oxygenate and regenerate. In addition, a properly selected oil will emphasize all the advantages of hair - the curl structure in the case of curly hair and the shine of straight hair. At the same time, oiling also helps to take proper care of frizzy hair.
Such hair care is effective thanks to the oils' content of vitamins, phytosterols and unsaturated fatty acids. These substances penetrate deep into the hair, nourish it and strengthen the hair bulbs. They also regulate the action of sebum and protect against harmful environmental factors.
There are several methods, because you can do it dry, wet or with foundation and conditioner. Each method is easy and none requires special skills. Maybe just a bit of practice that is acquired over time.
As the name suggests, this method is used on dry hair. Rub the selected type of oil into the scalp and hair, wrap it in a towel or a bun. After 30 minutes, wash it off. The same method can be used at night . Rub the selected type of oil into the scalp and gently massage in circular movements. The oil remaining on your fingers should be rubbed into your hair, wrapped in a turban or towel and left overnight. After waking up, gently wash and rinse your hair , then apply conditioner (or coconut oil). And that's it, the whole philosophy.
This method differs from the previous one only in that the entire procedure is carried out on wet, previously washed hair. This option will work for people who use large amounts of styling cosmetics. Before oiling, it is a good idea to remove them from your hair.
Depending on your hair type, you can oil your hair once or twice a week . If we overdo it, we will achieve the opposite effect and the hair will be weighed down. Although Ayurvedic tradition says that oiling is also good for everyday use. If your scalp is oily or you simply feel that oiling it is too heavy, you can only oil your hair or only its dry ends.
The most popular oils used for this care ritual are coconut oil , rich in lauric acid. Its molecules are very similar to proteins, which are the main building blocks of hair. Lauric acid contained in coconut oil effectively nourishes the hair. It is also worth trying sesame oil , which helps control frizzy hair and smooth hair ends. It also helps take care of the condition of the scalp, and thanks to its bactericidal and fungicidal properties, it can help avoid problems related to dandruff. Argan oil, also popular in Poland, is also recommended. Thanks to the content of vitamins A, C, E and antioxidants, it acts as a natural conditioner.
In fact, you can use almost any type of natural oil . It can be sweet almond oil, sunflower oil, apricot kernel oil, olive oil, hazelnut oil, rapeseed oil, avocado oil, rice oil, peanut oil... It's worth trying which one suits your hair best.
