In an interview with nikalab, Agnieszka Balcerek talked about her holistic approach to health, answered the question why she does not meditate and what helps her calm her thoughts and reduce stress. She also revealed what she is grateful for to her mother.
For me, work life balance means... the ability to turn off autopilot and space for spontaneity. I achieve work life balance when I can reach for what I want and need and when I do not have to limit myself to what results from my duties and everyday responsibilities.
My three most important daily health habits are ... first of all, drawing attention to the fact that we should look at health holistically and find practices that combine goodness in terms of physical and mental health.
Number 1 for me is water - always at my fingertips. This is a habit of mine to such an extent that I try not to make myself feel thirsty and I feel very good about it.
Number 2 is fresh air and closeness to nature, preferably combined with physical activity.
Number 3 is time with your loved ones and taking care of your relationships. I have wonderful people in my life. When needed, they give me energy, motivate and inspire me.
The sport I practice regularly is... cycling - most often long bike trips on forest trails outside the city. If I can, I ride horses, unfortunately I have to take a break at the moment and I miss it very much. I choose physical activity that allows me to be close to nature.
I spend about 5 hours a week on physical activity . The interesting thing is that I only counted it now - I have never had the need to monitor every element of my life.
What motivates me to play sports... is the physical condition it gives my body as a result - if it weren't for physical activity, I wouldn't be able to go through life the way I want. For me, sport is primarily about pleasure and fun.
I don't meditate because ... I touched on various meditation techniques and I didn't feel that it was a practice for me. It's hard to commit to this if your head and body are used to slowing down your thoughts and reducing stress actively and around people. I think that one day I will return to meditation, but only when my attitude is free from the desires and reluctance associated with this practice.
I try to incorporate other ways into my everyday life to calm my racing thoughts: caring for plants, physical activity, closeness to loved ones or the comfort of silence.
My diet is based on... seasonal and unprocessed products of good quality. I owe proper eating habits to my mother, who is a medical dietitian. At this point in my life, I am so grateful for all the nutrition education she has given me. Thanks to her, I know what and how to eat to help my body function at high speed.
I end the day on… it depends on the time of year. This changes depending on what the weather outside allows. In spring and summer I love watching the sun set and it is my favorite way to end the day. In autumn and winter it is a bathtub and a book.
I spend… 7 hours sleeping. I try to have uninterrupted and very good quality sleep.
The thing I do only for myself is… Preventive examinations. Recently, I have learned that this is an absolutely necessary element of self-care. For myself, I also read books, ride a bike and stay close to people who inspire me.
My little sins are... allowing myself to do them and not reproach myself for them. I'm not a fan of assigning pejorative synonyms to situations in which I let go, let go and reach for pleasure. Of course, everything is within reason, but in my opinion, the desire to completely renounce one's little sins is a dangerous perfectionist trait.
Happiness for me is... peace in the head and joy in the heart.
Luxury for me is... being in complete harmony with myself, convenience, comfort and the feeling that nothing bothers me.
My small, everyday steps in taking care of the planet are... I eat little meat and for me it is closely related to taking care of the environment. I avoid fast fashion - I prefer to buy something less frequently, but of good quality. I sort waste and always do my shopping with my own bag. Professionally - all training for which I am responsible is organized 100% paperless.
The advice I would give myself if I was 20 again is... trust your intuition and don't be afraid to make mistakes.
