Renata Filipek-Baryłowska opowiada o tym, czym jest dla niej work-life balance

In an interview with nikalab, Renata Filipek-Baryłowska talks about why she doesn't like the word "luxury", how golf can replace a vacation and what motivates her to practice sports.

For me, work life balance is... my well-being and the feeling that nothing bothers me. I often work very intensively, but I know that I can plan more relaxed days, and I do so. Good proportion management gives me the feeling that this balance exists. Hybrid work plays a big role in this, and I like it very much. I think it's a matter of planning and the ability to give up some activities.

My three most important daily health habits are... walking my dog, conscious breathing and healthy eating.

The sport I practice regularly is... tennis and, a little less frequently, golf.

I spend 3 to 4 hours a week on physical activity .

My motivation for sports… I should say my husband. He is the one who motivates me to take part in various types of sports activities, but I am also motivated by the thought of my physical condition in a dozen or so years. I am aware that I am working for it right now.

My attitude towards meditation is... very positive, although I don't really know how to do it. Conscious breathing in my garden works amazingly and for now it is enough for me.

My diet is based on... variety and good quality products. I cook a lot at home, so I try to limit eating processed foods. I also do vegetable fasts from time to time, which help cleanse the body and restore balance - I really like doing them in a group with my friends, because then we motivate each other.

I end the day by… reading. Sometimes books, sometimes press releases about what's going on in the world. I don't read the news at all during the day, I have notifications turned off, which also allows me to focus better on the most important goals.

I spend… at least 8 hours on sleep , sometimes even longer, and I am very happy with it. I try to take care of the quality of my sleep, avoiding tension, brooding or unfinished business. Sleep is very important to me and I pay a lot of attention to it.

The thing I do only for myself is... I play golf - although I do it far too rarely, it is an amazing sport that combines activity, sociability, but also being alone with yourself in a beautiful natural environment. After a whole day spent on the golf course, you can feel a total reset in your head, like after a week's vacation. This is a wonderful therapy that I recommend to everyone!

My little sins are... coffee and sweets.

Happiness for me is... a good life every day, on your own terms. I used to act/think under the influence of other people, but it's a trap. Today I am a very fulfilled person with my experiences and beliefs - I feel very good about it. What makes me happy every day is my supportive husband and growing daughters.

Luxury for me is... I don't like this word, it is associated with something that you don't have every day, something you strive for, and often do it for show. I keep my feet pretty firmly on the ground. If something is within my reach and I need it, I take it, but I don't call it a luxury. However, if something is beyond my reach, I don't chase it for... well, I don't even know why I would do it.

My small daily steps in taking care of the planet are... a lot of different, small things, but the most important is sorting garbage. My whole family knows I'm crazy about it and I chase everyone who doesn't follow it.

The advice I would give myself if I were 20 again is... learn the top 3 languages well. I started learning English at school, but I only started using and improving it at work. Today I'm learning Spanish and I think it would be much easier for me if I started earlier.

A book/podcast that I recently read/listened to and recommend is... "I wish I had never met you" by Wiktor Krajewski. I came across this book quite by accident, thanks to the recommendation of Mr. Mariusz Szczygieł, and it simply captivated me - with its difference from what I read every day, with its gratitude that we can feel for our loved ones, for life, for ourselves. I highly recommend it for a weekend.
