In an interview with nikalab, Martina Zawadzka-Gawrońska talks about what the island of Bali taught her, how she felt as a waitress after working in a corporation as a manager, and why she decided that Poland was her place in the world.

For me, work life balance means... no remorse in every area of life. And if remorse appears - for me it is a warning light that something needs to change.

My three most important daily health habits are... a very interesting question, because people usually don't think about doing habits, they just do them. In my case, there are probably more, but the most important ones for me are:

  • I drink a lot of water, usually about 2-3 liters every day.
  • I don't drink coffee - I replace it with green tea. I always couldn't grab a coffee with someone at work because I was always drinking something else.
  • Walks. Now these are usually walks with a stroller, and if not with a stroller, I try to take my husband for them or I go alone.

The sports I practice regularly are... yoga and Nordic walking. I bought a yoga course and practice at home, thanks to which I develop and it gives me a lot of fun. From time to time, I arrange individual classes to check whether my work is going in the right direction.

I spend about 4-5 hours a week on physical activity .

My motivation for sports is... the mirror :)

I meditate because… it is a relief for my senses. I don't know if it comes with age, but I have grown to the point where, by meditating, I am able to stop and switch off from this racing world, at least for a moment.

My diet is based on... vegetables, fruit and limiting meat. I try not to include this meat in my shopping cart. I'm looking for replacements and testing different things.

I end the day with... relaxation to the sounds of crystal singing bowls. I try to spend 20 minutes clearing my mind and harmonizing my body.

I spend... I would like to say 8 hours of sleep, but my daughter often has other plans.

The thing I do only for myself is… going for massages. It gives me great pleasure, and at the same time it is combined with relaxation and work on the body and mind.

My little sins are... sweets (mainly chocolate) and chips.

Happiness for me is... love, family, peace of mind and fulfillment.

Luxury for me is... a word that has changed its meaning since a little person appeared in my home and heart. Now luxury for me is eating dinner in peace or drinking warm green tea.

My small, everyday steps in taking care of the planet are... saving electricity and energy, sorting waste and educating my parents in this respect, using reusable bags and buying things in second-hand stores.

The advice I would give myself if I were 20 again is... try, test, look for what makes you happy and devote your time to it. You don't have to be good at everything.

The book and podcast I currently recommend is…

  • Yoga Anatomy Podcast and Radio Sensitivity.
  • The book "Discover your inner child" by Stefanie Stahl. Everyone should have it in their home so that they can look deep inside themselves.

The place that impressed me the most during my trip was... it's hard to choose one, but of all the places I visited, Indonesia, and specifically the island of Bali, stayed in my heart the most. I lived there with an Indonesian family and had the opportunity to get inside this culture. Observing every day how Ketut looks at the phases of the moon, what holiday is associated with a given phase, what needs to be done and what to pray for. Every day while eating breakfast, I would receive such information accompanied by mantra-type music. It intensely fueled my spiritual zone and motivated me to meditate.

Later I went to Australia, where I started working and living a full life in Sydney. I worked as a waitress and felt that I mentally returned to my student days, even though I left Poland as a manager in a corporation. I had never been a waitress before and I felt like a fish out of water. I've always wanted to try it, but let's face it - I wasn't good at it. Various things in life give us satisfaction and this situation gave me a lot to think about where we are going on the ladder of dreams and realization. This trip fulfilled my dreams and in every place I discovered a new piece of myself.

My place on earth is… in Poland. I honestly admit that I was hoping that during the trip I would find a place where I would like to stay and settle down, where I would fall in love and this story would simply end with a happy ending. That wasn't the case. The more often I met Poles in exile, the more they infected me with longing for the country. At the end of the trip, I arrived in New York and was delighted with it. This rush was something I knew from Warsaw and seemed perfect for me. Suddenly it turned out that with my experience and school from Poland, I was really a nobody there and I would have to start from scratch. The more I felt the path I had taken in Poland, the more it confirmed my belief that happiness is living in a place where you are and feel at home.

Places where I didn't feel safe while traveling... sleeping on a couch in a Pakistani couchsurfing room, a storm in the Philippines or an accident in the jungle, on an island where there is no doctor, only a shaman and no one to help me. There were many moments during which I could appreciate how easy life we lead in Poland. I described all the stories in the book I wrote after my return. Recently I read in one of the reviews that this book is entertaining and makes you think about your own life. That's what I wanted her to be. So that it does not only describe my journey, but that everyone can find a piece of themselves and their own experiences in it. The book is titled: "Nine Dreams. How I found myself on a journey around the world .
