Choosing the right dietary supplement for a child on the Polish market can be a real challenge. There is a huge selection of different products, which can overwhelm parents who want to take care of their child's health and development. The availability of many brands and the variety of ingredients can make it difficult to decide which product is the best and simply (or even) good for your child.
In addition, children's supplements are often placed on lower shelves in drugstores and stores, where a child can easily notice and reach for the colorful packaging or favorite cartoon character on the label. Such marketing tricks mean that the choice of a dietary supplement is not made by the parent based on the composition, origin and quality of ingredients and other objective values of the product, but by the child based on emotions.
When it comes to dietary supplements for children, there is also a legal problem. The system of regulation and supervision of the dietary supplements market in Poland, especially those for children, still has many gaps. Many products are not rigorously tested for effectiveness and safety, which increases the risk of purchasing supplements of questionable quality (albeit in refined packaging designed to create a premium feel). This may raise concerns among parents who want to be sure what they give their child.
In response to these and other shortcomings of the dietary supplements market for children, and based on an innovative solution, nikalab jellies were created - Everyday Base Child · Me. "The jellies are composed of ingredients whose role is to supplement a varied diet with typical nutritional gaps, excluding those vitamins and minerals that are abundant in children's meals. Their task is to support the proper growth and development of our children every day," says M.D. Nina Nicheska, founder of nikalab.
Our innovative, vegan jellies contain:
Here's what else makes our product stand out:
The addition of vitamins and minerals is now a popular practice in the production of processed products, and dietary supplements for children are often sold at checkouts, next to sweet bars or gum. However, fortified foods and cheap dietary supplements often contain ingredients in inactive forms and of unknown origin. Why? It's a matter of money. High-quality, easily digestible, bioavailable active ingredients from top European suppliers (vitamins, minerals and others) cost more. Their use significantly increases the cost of the product, which is unacceptable for producers who rely on price competition.
The active ingredients of nikalab jellies were selected primarily due to their bioavailability and bioavailability, as well as their origin. The formulations of our dietary supplements were developed with the participation of scientists, doctors, pharmacists, food technologists, and pediatric dietitians. After analyzing hundreds of clinical studies, they selected effective and safe forms of active ingredients, their appropriate doses (not too large, not too small), as well as the most renowned suppliers of these ingredients in Europe. This way we can be sure that the ingredients really work and are safe for children.
In popular dietary supplements you will find vitamin D3, which comes from lanolin, mainly from sheep's wool fat. The process of obtaining it is part of industrial animal breeding, which is cruel to them (read more about why such vitamin D is unethical here ). In our products, we use vitamin D3 obtained from microalgae. Algae grow in special conditions where no chemicals are used. The microalgae processing process is environmentally friendly. Research shows that the chemical structure of our vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol from algae) is identical to vitamin D3 from lanolin. However, in the process of its production, we spare animals suffering and help the planet.
The situation is similar when it comes to Omega-3 acids. It is wrongly believed that their primary source is fish, but they obtain these acids by eating algae! Omega-3 acids (EPA + DHA) in nikalab jellies are obtained from the original source - microalgae. Thanks to this, they do not have an intense fishy smell and taste (which is a huge advantage for children), and are free from allergens, toxins, pollutants and heavy metals. Their production does not disturb the environmental ecosystem, unlike the process of obtaining fish oil, which is part of industrial fishing. You can learn more about the differences between Omega-3 fatty acids from algae and fish in this article .
In addition to active ingredients, each dietary supplement also contains supporting ingredients. The latter is a real Pandora's box. These include taste and aroma enhancers, rinse aids, anti-caking agents, preservatives, harmful dyes, sugar and sweeteners... We discussed all these unwanted additives and their impact on health and the planet in more detail in a separate article (it's really worth taking a look).
In the case of children, this topic becomes particularly important. When buying food or snacks for them, we carefully check the ingredients, looking for the most healthy options. However, when it comes to dietary supplements, we often forget about this. Sometimes we turn a blind eye to it, thinking that since most products contain so many additives, it is probably impossible to avoid it.
Our jellies are jellies without compromise. They do not contain unwanted additives that may negatively affect health, such as the ubiquitous:
These are just some examples. There are plenty of synthetic adjuvants and the impact of many of them on human health has not been well researched.
Many popular dietary supplements also contain ingredients such as shellac (resin obtained from insect excrements) or pork gelatin (derived from, among others, animal skin and bones). Not everyone is aware that shiny colorful dragees may owe their appearance to insects, and the production of gummy bears indirectly contributes to the exploitation and expansion of animal farming, which is responsible for approximately 18% of all greenhouse gas emissions on the planet 6 .
Everyday base jellies Child · Me (3+ years) are 100% vegan (i.e. they do not contain parts of insects, animals or other living creatures). Their composition combines fiber with Omega-3 acids from algae and selected vitamins and minerals. When it comes to supporting ingredients, there is really a minimum of them. They are all natural and of organic origin. Our composition is short, clean and transparent.
In the Everyday Baby · JA Base you will not find added sugar or sweeteners that may harm the child's development. In turn, many popular dietary supplements are often "sugar bombs" under the guise of a healthy product. At the same time, we know that Polish children eat much too much sugar - on average 19 teaspoons a day 7 . This is one of the highest (if not the highest) results in Europe. WHO believes that it is best for a child not to exceed the daily limit of 4-5 teaspoons of added sugar (or other sweeteners) 8 .
That's why at nikalab we focused on a healthier solution. Our jellies owe their delicious fruity flavor to natural and safe ingredients. This includes: organic apple juice concentrate and organic tapioca fiber FiberSMART®. This innovative type of fiber is poorly digested in the upper gastrointestinal tract. It helps avoid a sudden spike in blood glucose. Additionally, the body's reaction to glucose is also helped by the fat present in the jellies - Omega-3 from algae (EPA + DHA).
This is important to provide your child with stable energy throughout the day and to avoid sudden sugar drops that are associated with excessive excitability, mood swings and "emotional swings".
You can read more about the impact of sugar and sweeteners on your child's health in a separate article .
Although they resemble candies, nikalab jellies are definitely not candies. They are a dietary supplement of the highest quality produced to the standard applicable to medicines. Our dietary supplements are manufactured in GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) certified plants, i.e. in the same conditions as pharmaceuticals. Gummies are also subject to quality and composition tests during the production process, just like medicines. In this way, we ensure the highest effectiveness and safety of the finished product.
You can read more about the GMP standard in this text .
Not only do we produce our jellies under the most stringent pharmaceutical conditions, but we also perform an extensive package of quality tests in accredited laboratories (much broader than the minimum required by law).
The basic set of tests necessary for a dietary supplement to be approved for marketing in Poland includes two items: heavy metal content and microbiological purity testing. Many dietary supplement manufacturers stop there.
In turn, we know more about nikalab jellies because we research:
The test results of each of our products, including children's jellies, are a reason for us to be proud. They are available in the form of certificates on our website , so everyone can see that we are completely transparent and that we put quality and safety first.
